Body Armour – Flotation Armour
The Fortis range of armoured buoyancy jackets and armoured inflatable lifejackets is designed for use by law enforcement and military personnel on operations such as pursuing, boarding and searching ships, and arresting and escorting ships to port. Deck operations and boardings can lead to personnel falling into the sea and drenching their armour.
An essential requirement for body armour for maritime use is that the internal armour retains its ballistic-resistance properties while wet. Using state-of-the-art armour materials, the performance of the Fortis armoured buoyancy jacket is unaffected by moisture.
Fortis armoured buoyancy jackets have sufficient inherent buoyancy (up to 100 Newtons) to aid survival in calm, ocean and coastal waters and inland waterways. Jackets are fitted with closed-cell vinyl-nitrile buoyancy foam.
Fortis armoured inflatable jackets have sufficient buoyancy (up to 275 Newtons) to aid survival of unconscious wearers in deep ocean waters. Jackets are fitted with inflatable collars.
Fortis Flotation Armour protects against:
-
Ballistic attack (including 'blunt-trauma')
-
Stabbing attack (including knives, spikes and needles)
-
Fragmentation (from exploding devices)
-
Blunt injury (from blows to the body)
Fortis Flotation Armour has been qualified to HOSDB HG2 / KR2 / SP2 and NIJ IIIA. Fortis Flotation Armour carries the coveted Four-Star weight-rating.
Fortis Flotation Armour jackets can be tailored to suit individual customer requirements for outer fabrics, pockets, pouches, styles and insignia.
